Dev Log Week #1 Brainstorm & Godot Maze Setup

Brainstorm:

(Switch to this as a concept) A JOBBBBB

  • First person view
  • Satire Horror
  • Horror maze (you must find the exit while avoiding the monster who will pursue you when it sees you)
  • The player has an active heart beat (if the creature comes closer to you, your heartbeat gets faster and louder.)
  • When the monster sees you, it will initiate the chase theme. When you get out of its line of sight, your heart beat will calm down, and it will make the monster re-enter docile mode when it roams around the maze.
  • The player needs to collect the 4 keys before being able to unlock the door, OR, similar to Pac Man, there’s a bunch of orbs and you can collect all of them for a high score.

Maze:

  • Adjust the maze to make the width of the hallways bigger to allow the player room to run and juke the monster if necessary, the PNG needs to fit within the hallways anyways. Make some more exits too, should only have a few dead ends.
  • An overall hum ambience for subtle white noise in the background, but the docile theme will remain as the overall background track, before jumpstarting to aggro if the monster sees you in its line of sight.
  • For textures, a simple alpha mask can work to add cracks and overall ruin if I want or make it a brick texture
  • Instructions on the wall at the beginning of the maze (collect the 4 keys around the maze before you can escape) + (run from the MONSTER. You can run FASTER than it, but be wary of your stamina.)
  • The monster spawns in the middle of the maze where they will roam the area in their docile state.

Player:

  • Heartbeat (increases in volume and speed when the monster is near)
  • Footsteps (just a basic sound effect)
  • Limited stamina (player has to use their sprint sparingly) where your breathing becomes heavy, so instead of a stamina BAR, you have to hear out the player’s breathing to know your stamina has run dry.
  • Getting touched by the monster causes an immediate game over (the player will get jumpscared)

Monster:

  •  Docile state and aggro state (When the monster is not within sight of the player, it is in their docile state, but when the monster is in view of the player, it will pursue the player until the player manages to break line of sight; if they do, the monster will re-enter its docile state, where it roams around the maze. There will probably be a certain delay on how long the player remains undetected by the monster’s sight, because it’d be strange and frustrating if the monster immediately loses contact with you)
  • Footsteps (increases in volume when the player is near)
